Special Intervention
Maths and Reading
Some students might need a bit more help with maths. We offer different types of support to help them succeed.
We also provide extra help for students who need support with reading, we will identify these students and talk with families about the next steps.
Promoting Positive Behaviour
Some students face social and emotional challenges that can affect their learning. Our mentors work with groups and individuals to help them get ready to learn. We offer several programmes, such as nurture groups, social skills training, friendship groups, turn-taking, anger management, understanding emotions, and building emotional resilience. These supports are often tailored to meet the needs of each student or group. All staff have completed attachment training, focusing on ways to support students who are looked after or adopted. They have also finished ‘Just Right training’, which gives them the tools to help students manage their feelings and reflect.
Speech and Language
If our students have trouble with speech sounds or need to build their vocabulary, they may join ‘School Start’, a speech and language program for reception children. This program runs for two terms and is led by our teaching assistants, with half an hour each week focused on speech sounds and vocabulary. If a student has specific speech or language difficulties, they can be referred to a Speech Therapist who will visit the school to carry out an assessment.
