At Hertford Primary School, we see English as an essential life skill. Through English, children learn to listen, speak, read, and write for many different reasons. They express themselves creatively and become thoughtful readers of stories, poetry, drama, non-fiction, and media. By exploring how language works—its patterns, structures, and origins—children build skills they use in speaking and writing in many situations.
Speaking and listening are central to everything we do throughout the curriculum.
